Ahmet Telli was born in Çankırı, in Eskipazar district (now Karabük), Turkey in 1946, studied at hasanoglu and Pazaroren Schools and obtained a universitary degree in literature fron the Gazi Education Istitute. He worked for a period of time a sa teacher until running into political problems with the Turkish authorities after the military coup in 1980. Today Ahmet Telli is one of the most important poets in Turkey. For his poetry, he received the Toprak poetry award (1980) and the Tazko poetry award (1982). Some of his most famous poetry books are Yangın Yılları (1979), Dövüşen Anlatsın (1980), Su Çürüdü (1982), Cocuksun Sen (1994), and Barbar ve Şehla (2003).
